5 Native American Paragraphs

My Native project is on a very famous Indian girl named Pocahontas. In this paragraph I will be talking about the early years of her life as a child and a young girl. Pocahontas was born in 1580 to the chief of her tribe, the Powhatan Indians. Since her father was the chief, she was born an Indian princess. Her real name was Matooka, but was switched to Pocahontas as a nick-name to contradict with her personality as a young, playful girl. She was later given an easily recognizable name as the “Powhatan Peace-Maker.” She was given this name because when she first saw the colonists’ ships approaching on the horizon as a young girl; she did not immediately assume hatred and little understanding to them. She was more interested in learning about them and accepting them. She was one of the only and if only person in her tribe who actually wanted to get to know them and make peace with them. She was interested in them so much, that she fell in love with the captain of their town and ships, Mr. John Smith, at age thirteen. Pocahontas’s story about her and the English colonists became as popular as Sacagawea’s story back in the day. It was so cherished and loved, that Mr. Walt Disney created one of his many masterpieces on it. He created the Disney classic called, “Pocahontas.” This story tells about her and her life with her Indian family and her colonist “friends.” She was one of the famous Indian women who helped create future love an understanding between the Indians and the white people.

Although Pocahontas saw the colonists as her friends, her fellow Indian family did not. All through the hardships of there already complicated lives, they didn’t think that new people could come in and take over there land. They went through a time called “The Starving Time” to get there point across to the colonists. The Indians held full out campaign against the colonists, when they already had only the “Third Supply” to live off of. The “Third Supply”, was all that the colonists had to survive in the “New World” which they had found. The supplies were brought in my ships from England. Pocahontas’s love, Mr. Smith, was replaced as Jamestown leader and became a dangerous man. He was very angry. This made things harder for Pocahontas and John Smith and the colonists. All this made the colonists and the Indians even more segregated. But even with the differences between the two races, Pocahontas was still set on making things right between them. The whole war between the Indians and the English got so out of hand, that the Powhatan Chief tried to kill John Smith. Pocahontas’s own father was not about to give in and make peace with his enemies. In the end, they came to a civil place of companionship with each other. It was all because of Pocahontas.

John Smith as you know took a big part in the story of Pocahontas. It has been said he had died but I personally think that wasn’t true. Mr. John Smith was born in the year of 1565. He left home at the age of sixteen and started his voyages as a volunteer. On his first voyage he was named captain while fighting a battle with the Hungarians, in the Country of Hungry. From then on, he was the captain of the ships sailed from England, and was the “owner” of Jamestown, which was the town that the colonists created when they landed on the land of the Indians, or, the “New World.” He was soon replaced, as you know. But he soon learned the ways of the Indians. Pocahontas showed him a new point of view by teaching him the ways of the Indian and how much everything that the Indians do, and what they are surrounded by, is worth. He soon falls in love with Pocahontas as she did with him. Then, the battle between the two races began. This was the reason he was replaced as the captain, and leader. The colonists didn’t think it was right that he was interacting with a “savage.” The colonists believed that since the Indians were so much different and they lived their lives in an undiscovered way, that they were savages. But all turns out fine, or so we know of.

One more person who was equally important in the story told by the Indians or even you and me, was Pocahontas’s father. The Chief. He was tribe leader of over twenty-eight tribes, and ruled eight. He was probably one of, or even the most successful and popular Indian chief’s ever. He got around as well. It was probably a tradition of the Powhatan’s, but he had 100 wives total in his life time. And for each wife, he had one child. Out of all the children he had, Pocahontas, was always his favorite. He was the one who gave her, her nick-name. He also, along with the Indians and the colonists, did not approve of Pocahontas being with the leader of the there enemy. John Smith. There was more then hatred with just the whole tribe and colony, it was more of the battle of the chief and leader. The Chief had more against John Smith then his whole colony with out even giving him a chance. He was cold-shouldered to Pocahontas as well as her Indian family after they found out about her and Mr. Smith. But, after seeing the love that they two people had for each other, and how Pocahontas had taught him about the way of the Powhatan Indian, he understood. It took a long time though. He learned to accept the colonists as his own people.

All the people who took a great role in Pocahontas’s life have been mentioned. How her father learned to understand, and how John Smith and the colonists learned a new way of living. The way of the Indian. The Indians had a simple way of living, but it could also me complex. Fall, winter, spring, and summer all had there different agendas. Fall, was where they harvested the crops and ate them. Winter, they had food and such saved from fall usually dried, or stored. Spring and summer, were both the planting seasons. In those two seasons, the woman and children both went out every day and planted and took care of there crops and food for the fall and winter. They grew lots of the food we still eat today, such as corn, rice, wheat, beans, and more. And when they were harvested and saved, they had them hung on a big storage rack along with their weapons for easy and fast access. These racks were hung on the walls of the long houses that the Indians cooked in, slept in, and lived in. They even had there indoor fired in them. Altogether the way of the Indian was a very content and happy way of living. I think I could survive living like that way maybe a week. All and all, the story of Pocahontas was one that I love to hear over and over again. I think she is by far the greatest Indian woman to achieve and earn a good solid block in history for her self. She made balance between two completely different types of people, and made them peaceful with each other. She helped change a very worldwide cause. Thanks to her, Indians and white people are friendly and peaceful with each other.

ICE HOCKEY! =D

Ice Hockey, well as you can tell from lots of my previouse entries (if you've read my school journal) you would know I love to dance and play soccer. But that isn't close to all the sports I love to do. Like the first two words in the first sentence, you can tell the sport that I'm going to tell you about, and that I love doing. Ice Hockey, yeah. It' one of my "many" passions. I guess hockey is in my blood since I'm Canadian and all, but ICE hockey is just my favorite and is so amazing, and is quite special to me. When you first get out on that ice on that HUGE arena it's awesome. It's so cool, and frosty. Of course, I'm not cold though, because, I'll be wearing SO much padding. But to see everything that I've missed since I left Canada. But it6's all just SO awesome might I add again. I havent been skating or playing in quite some time, so I'm guessing I'm really "rusty" on the skills as you mmight say. But that's fine. I just like to know that I got to and still can play play favorite skating sport in the world...ICE HOCKEY! =D

STOP FRAME REFLECTION ESSAY

We have recently finished a big clay built animation on a famous explorer. My partner was Kelsey Juvenile, and we did our project on Leif Eriksson. He was the son of Erik the Red, a famous Viking-farmer who some believe discovered America, but left before exploring it. Leif then rediscovered it later and fully explored it. He formally discovered America in his time.

There were a lot of fun parts of this project, but my favorite part I most enjoyed was the photography. It was so great to see all the work you put into the back ground, and the people come out in a finished product. You got to capture and edit everything until it was perfect. I already had an interest in photography, so this was a big challenge and great part of this project.

As always, with a project, come difficult parts. I’m no computer genius, so the duration and the computer work of importing scenes from the camera was really difficult for me to do alone or at all. It was hard because I virtually have no patience, and messed it up a lot. All and all, I really think that it benefited me with future technical skills, which I’ll use someday.

I learned a lot of things on this project, and I would still say all the computer work was the most valuable thing I ever could have learned. Along with that, were my partner skills Usually, I like to take over and do everything myself. But working with Kelsey made me realize that when you’re with a partner, you have to equally share all of the work. I learned to work well with others and be patient and polite with a partner.

All throughout the project I learned, and found difficult and enjoyable parts that stuck out to me. I really enjoyed doing this project more than I thought I would. I got through all of the hard things, easy things, etc. but it all came together very well. I am very proud of it. Thanks Mr. Bergquist for helping me get that great feeling of accomplishment and pride in my work.

Falcons VS. Arch Bishop =[

SO...Friday kinda sucked. I went to a Falcon's game at the High School hoping to do another victory dance, but I was wrong. We lost. The score was like 7 t0 14 or something, pretty close. But it was a fun game. 4Th quarter was madness! Everyone was screaming an cheering yelling, "DEFENSE! DEFENSE!" Anyways, i got a muffin and hot chocolate, so it was OK with me that we lost. Ha ha. So yeah. Next week (if there is a game) we are SO going to WIN! GO FALCONS! WOO WOO!!!

My Dancing Poem. (haha, its SO bad =P)

Dance.

When I was one, I injurd my thumb, guess what I was doing, I was dancing!

When I was two, I got covered in glue, what was I doing? I was dancing.

When I was three, I was stung by a bee, now what was I doing? I was dancing!

When I was four I ran into a door, I was dancing.

When I was five, I got the stink eye, guess what I was doing, I was dancing!

I love to dance and prance.

It puts we in a trance, when I dance.

REAR WINDOW ESSAY

The wonderfully crafted movie called “Rear Window” was directed by one of the world’s most amazing and inspirational people who lived at that time. His name was Alfred Hitchcock. “Rear Window” is a movie about a famous photographer named L.B. Jefferies, who had severely broken his leg. In the despair of being stuck in his apartment for seven weeks, he takes an interest of watching a suspicious neighbor whose wife had recently disappeared. Together he, his girlfriend, and the nurse investigate. This movie was, for the most part, filmed in one apartment. This movie could have been very boring, but, the way Mr. Hitchcock fills it with suspense, makes it an enjoyable flick that will keep you guessing.

Alfred Hitchcock’s film, “Rear Window” is riveting, is how he creates suspense through shadows and lighting. An example would be when the mysterious shadow creeps over Mr. Jefferies while he is sleeping. You wonder what is going to happen. You get anxious. When Mr. Thorwald enters the apartment in the dark, with no lights on, and only a shadow of him standing at the door way, you get excited because you want to know what is going to come next in the following scene, Now that is all excitement!

Another way “Rear Window” is full of surprises, is by the way he creates suspense through silence. As odd as that may sound, it is amazing how this is true. When Mr. Thorwald is talking on the phone, long distance, you can tell he is trying to keep his wife from hearing. And you wonder who he is talking to, and how it will tie in later in the story. As his wife comes in and they talk, you wonder with anxiousness what she has discovered and found out. You feel drawn to what you think will happen next.

He also creates suspense through the scene itself. This is one of the most important and popular ways of creating suspense. Another good example of how this is true is when Mr. Thorwald is putting away all those knives and saws rapped up in newspaper. It makes you wonder what he is doing with them, and what he has done. What will happen next? Through anxiousness and excitement in a very suspenseful way. The things that Mr. Jefferies isn’t supposed to be seeing through his apartment, is right there creating suspense itself. You are wondering why he had those knives and saws in the first place.

Alfred Hitchcock did a wonderful job of making this movie interesting an a suspenseful film to view. I really enjoyed the fact that he was able to put you inside all the main characters minds. What they thought, I thought, and what they predicted or assumed, I did the same. I am looking forward to watching many more of Alfred Hitchcock’s classics.

The Random Journal Entry Blog Number 1

The library.
There is allot more to the library then just books!
I would know, because I am up here writing and looking around, which like doing quite a lot.
The are kids writing, researching, and typing on the computers.
There are kids reading and looking for books also.
My favorite thing about the library is the quietness.
This makes it so every one can concentrate on the very different similar things everyone is doing.
No one feels out of place, because no one doing one specific thing, which I fancy quite a lot!
The second thing I love about the library,is obviously books!
All the different varieties are really a good point about our library.
I mean, seriously.
Isn't the whole POINT of a library the books?
Anyways.
For some reason, libraries make me quite calm actually.
It's really peaceful here, and I really enjoy that.
